The Revelstoke Racquet Den is a registered, non-profit society organized to promote the continued existence of racquet sports (squash in particular) in Revelstoke by encouraging and promoting ongoing opportunities for a wide range of friendly competition for players at all skill and fitness levels.
The executive of the Revelstoke Racquet Den strongly encourages all players to wear eye protection while participating in racquet sports due to the potential for significant eye injury. A number of Racquet Den members enjoy wearing the iMask visor available locally at Free Spirit Sports or online at Squash Canada.
The Revelstoke Racquet Den reserves the court(s) each Wednesday night from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm for a free skill building session for new players or those players interested in fine-tuning their techniques or receiving a bit of coaching. Come on out on Wednesday night and benefit from our having hosted coaching and officiating clinics.
The Revelstoke Racquet Den reserves the court(s) each Thursday night from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm to have a free drop-in session for interested players. Come on out on Thursday evenings for a bit of friendly play with different players depending on who drops in. All skill levels welcome!
Officiating Clinic
The Revelstoke Racquet Den hosted an officiating clinic (Level 1 certification) here in Revelstoke on Saturday, September 13, 2008 to help members become a bit more familiar with the rules of the game and the various calls.
Coaching Clinic
The Revelstoke Racquet Den also hosted a coaching clinic (Level 1 certification) here in Revelstoke from Friday, May 30th to Sunday, June 1st, 2008. Participants included Angus Woodman, Kevin Dorrius, Norm Tennant, Barry Rourke, Keith McNab, Greg Louttit, and Kurt Lindeman and we all learned some coaching techniques to help introduce new players to the fundamentals of the game. These new coaches will participate in the club's junior squash program to be implemented in October.
The Bear's Den Classic II (October, 2008)
Another great tournament!
The second Bear's Den Classic is over for this season and it would appear by all accounts that it was a succesful tournament and very enjoyable weekend for all. We had 29 players in A, B, C/D, and Womens divisions come to Revelstoke from Kamloops, Vernon, Nelson, Kelowna, and Calgary for a great weekend of squash and camaraderie. The picture below is of some of the contestants and there are more pictures of the divisional winners on the tournament page (click on the above link or on the graphic above). A huge thank you to all those who travelled to Revelstoke to support our tournament. We missed the lads from Nakusp and hope to see them next year. A big shout out to Kev and his gang for doing such a great job of putting on the tournament.
Hope to see you all again next year!
We learned a lot! That is the best way to sum up the adventures of Kevin Dorrius, Angus Woodman, Rusty Berarducci, and Greg Louttit as they return from having traveled to Nakusp to participate in their invitational tournament on February 22nd to 24th, 2008. The four categories of competition were combined into two groups of 8 players each (A and B together and C and D together) in a triple knockout tournament. Players from Nelson, Nakusp, and Revelstoke enjoyed the friendly competition, cheering, and side bets as well as the exhibition games between Brooke Sivers and David Langevin. Each of us played at least three matches and while we didn't lose all our games as we went on to lose almost all our matches (thanks Kevin), we did learn a huge amount about how to run a successful tournament. The Nakusp folks were extremely helpful in giving us many insights into running a successful tournament and our tournament will benefit from their helpful advice. Thanks go out in particular to Bill and Rod of the Nakusp Squash Club. Thanks to Rod for the pictures below.
