Racquet Den Update
- only a small update tonight
- we have approximately 48 members currently which brings the club very close to being self supporting with respect to being able to pay the rent on an annual basis
- we still need a few more memberships in order to cover the few incidental expenses we still encounter
- since the end of October, annual membership prices are now being discounted/pro-rated by $25.00/month
Racquetball Court
- we have had several general meetings about changing the racquetball court into a squash court by moving the back wall
- Dale has done his research into the cost of a moveable wall and has concurred with Kevin’s position that it would cost anywhere between $15K and $25K which is too expensive for the Revelstoke Racquet Den
- MOTION (Louttit/Percevault): That the existing racquetball court at the Revelstoke Racquet Den facilities be converted into a squash court
- passed unanimously
- Kevin would like a carpenter to lead the “conversion team” and the club is willing to offer a free annual membership in recognition of their contribution
- Joey Vosburgh is interested and available to sand the floors in the new squash court during the conversion (and the old squash court at a later date) in return for an annual membership
Membership Drive/Fundraising
- Norm indicated that in his conversations with Selkirk Tangiers they did not see a lot of use of the facilities by their guests, but did see purchasing a block of court passes (maybe 10 or 20) to provide to their guests (possibly Hillcrest guests also)
- these will be booked through the Community Center and racquets and eyeware are the responsibility of the hotel
Tournaments
- Kevin would like to have a Calcutta Handicap tournament to celebrate the opening of the new squash court
- minor entry fee, single game to 15 points, triple knockout tournament format, international rules (every serve generates a point (no loss of serve only)), ranked players between +10 and -10), and game score starts with player rankings (Kevin will explain this later)
- lots of fun and prizes to be won
- Kevin would also like to host a Revelstoke Racquet Den Open tournament sometime in January or February, possibly in conjunction with Winterlude inviting players from other clubs such Golden and Nakusp
- the idea of an annual club championship tournament as season windup sometime in March was also proposed
Other Business
- we decided to experiment with the on-line court reservation system
- the Community Center would be another user which would allow them to book drop in sessions as well as continue to provide booking services for members who don’t have access to the internet
- Kevin will speak to Free Spirit Sports about sponsoring that specific cost which should be approximately $100 per year
- we will renew our contract with the web site hosting company for two more years (a slightly better value) to coincide with our lease contract term
- Kevin will try to organize an initial work party to start the renovations of the new squash court for Saturday, November 24, 2007
